Project description

This project was launched in the commune of Maeriste (Salaj) by Heifer Project România in partnership with Agapis Foundation. Therefore, some needy families from six villages received each 51 dairy cows (Baltată Româneasca breed). The main objectives of this project were to improve nutrition by encouraging dairy cow breeding and to increase the farmers` income by selling milk and its derivates.

The project also has a seamen distribution component which will increase the quality of the livestock. One of the cornerstones of Heifer's philosophy is Passing on the Gift, which allows families who have received the cows to donate themselves the first female offspring to a named recipient from the same village.
